Ratio
Hi there, Can anyone point me to the information on BookMooch ratio (ie. how many books given vs. received) and what happens if you are in violation? I can't seem to find it in the wiki. Thanks, Michelle

I've had some folks request books from me who did not meet the requirement of the minimum 2:1 mooch ratio. They were not prevented from asking for books so I can't see how they are prevented from this process even if they are mooching more than sending. I don't always check peoples' stats so I did send some books out to them.

I imagine (and I could be wrong...it's happened two or three other times in my life) that if a moocher's ratio hits the magic 2:1 point, there is not an immediate shutdown, but rather their accounts are probably flagged as potential abusers...if the ratio then dips below, they are no longer watched...if they continue for some time at said ratio (or above) then I imagine that after a certain time limit they will be warned and/or cut off from mooching. This seems like an obvious way to do it, but I don't really know.

I think I was a little confused about this ratio and that I thought it meant that there must be a minimum 1:2. I thought there was a requirement to give away twice as many books as a person received. So those I thought had a too high ratio were not really in violation.

Very few people who regularly send books will ever approach the ratio limit. You can easily get more than 2 books for wach one sent if you ship worldwide, for instance, and due to bonuses, need not fear the ratio limit. Those who do (mainly brand new members) will see their ratio limit go red and will have their accounts limited until more books are sent from the account.

Thank you Mark, and everyone who has contributed to this discussion - it's been good to be reminded of the parameters here at BookMooch. Have a great day, Michelle
