Book 4 in the PI Jade de Jong thriller series set in South Africa

Johannesburg, South Africa: At first, the case appears to be one of simple misadventure. Sonet Meintjies, a base jumper, falls to her death while attempting to parachute off a newly built sixty-five-story skyscraper. But Sonet’s jumping partner insists that this was no accident, and he hires private investigator Jade de Jong to uncover the truth.

Jade discovers that Sonet worked for a charity that helped impoverished communities become self-supporting farming units. When Jade travels out to the community farm in Limpopo, she finds it not just abandoned but razed to the ground. Digging deeper for answers about where the residents went, Jade learns about a fatal but unidentified disease that swept through the entire community. A deadly harvest has been gathered, and the person who knows the real truth about it has been forced to become collateral in its trade.
Reviews: Lou B (USA: NV) (2013/03/27):
Didn't like this book.
(ARC Tpb copy) Great mystery premise, devious, twisty, should have been a 'great read'...had expected to like the book. But, got barely 1/4th thru book and couldn't 'take it' any more--the writer-style put me off enough that I was unable to enjoy the story or even to bother finishing the book--so skipped to last few pages to see what the ending might possibly be... Surprised--the ending was strong, good.

Initially, thought this writer was new and just hadn't learned the writing craft very well yet, and was willing to slog thru nearly 100 pages before 'giving up'. sigh. Considered perhaps some SOLID heavy draft re-writes and some honest copyediting would work wonders for what should have been a great story.

Researched the author a bit and discovered this is the 4th book in a series, plus author has another unrelated book published. Yikes. After this book, am not inclined to read ANY of the others by this author. So disappointed.
