Twelve-year-old Ben, an avid photographer, wants desperately to win a local photography contest, and when he meets Lily, a new girl in the neighborhood, it seems that pictures of the old house her family is renovating might be a stepping stone to success. But while his friends think Lily, an expert ice skater, is a good sport for coaching their losing ice-hockey team, Ben finds Lily odd, old-fashioned, and affected, and she finds Ben rude. Still, Ben finds himself compelled to photograph Lily, almost against his will, but there's always a flaw in the pictures, always a misty something--or someone--in the photo with her. He gradually has to admit that it might be a ghost, despite his skepticism, and his fear grows.
