BrendaV (USA: NC) (2009/01/16): I didn't like this book. I couldn't even finish it all the way through. Jenny S. (USA: IL) (2015/03/12): I really, really loved this book! The best parts were the characters, who became "real", and the way the author made the story come to life. I read it every year or so! Karen (USA: GA) (2019/08/02): I loved this story. My favorite character was a Vietnamese refugee. The author has him speaking in broken English so that at first he seems almost a buffoon, but then we see letters he writes to his wife. He writes in Vietnamese but we read in English and his letters and eloquent and moving. Lots of tragic characters, but lots of good laughs. Read it.
