Although meticulously detailed, I felt this book glossed over the violent nihilism of the Black Panther party. Today the surviving Panthers blame their fratricidal murders on the COINTELPRO program, as though FBI agents could easily influence *any* group of people to shoot, stab, dismember and burn each other over campfires in the mountains. No, the Panthers' own command and control structure, and their glorification of violence, made a violent outcome inevitable. More Panthers killed each other than were ever killed by the "Pigs." And Geronimo "languished" in prison because other Panthers refused to give him an alibi.
