Reviews: Lothlorien (USA: CA) (2008/07/08):
I enjoyed this story and I'm a picky, picky reader.

soapy (USA: AR) (2008/07/10):
I was unsure what to expect with this book, I read a few books at once until one grabs me, and this book grabbed me! I set the others aside and devoured the pages until I was fat and happy! I highly recommend this book, it reads fluidly, fast and clear.

Jennifer (USA: LA) (2008/09/24):
Excellent read. It had mystery, suspense, romance, and the transition from boy to man. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Marcus (USA: GA) (2009/02/26):
The usual comparisons seem to be with Eco, Perez Reverte, Borges, that type novel. This writer is all that and more. Excellent story, great translation (by one of Robert Graves' children no less), it grabs you and doesn't let go. Dan Brown with a brain. You owe yourself this one.

mb (USA: MI) (2009/05/06):
I'd say I did not love or hate this book. I did appreciate the tone of the story though, it had the feel of a noir mystery and impending danger/doom etc. Around the corner, or the next page, you know that something is going to happen which might make the hairs on your neck stand at attention. Happy reading!

Elizabeth (USA: MD) (2010/05/04):
The story line reminded me very much of my favourite novel - The Thirteenth Tale. Although written in a completely different style, it had that gothic feel (and by gothic I do NOT mean vampires and people who dress in black). Set in post civil war Spain, it follows the transition of a boy into a man. Full of intrigue, yet not what one would classify as a simple mystery novel. This story will take hold of you and won't let you go for days after you've put the book down. This is a very well written book with an excellent plot. One of my favourite reads this year by far.

Shirlee (USA: GA) (2010/08/29):
Oh my! I don't normally read this type of book but I couldn't put it down. It is an amazing story told by an author who is a genius at telling a story.

Denise C Clemens (USA: NC) (2010/09/12):
Loved this book to pieces! It is not a short read, so go at it when you're in the mood. This story has so many twists and turns, you cannot second guess it. Set in Barcelona which I never realized could be so gothic. However, the book is so much more than that. I understand why the author's books are translated into so many different languages. He has invented a class of his own and he is master.

Lauren (USA: FL) (2013/05/23):
Lots of twists and turns. It was quite depressing at times, but it made for a great story. Eventually, all the pieces of the puzzle fit together nicely and made sense. That's not to say it was confusing because it wasn't. I don't want to say too much, so I don't give the story away. Read it. It's totally worth it!
